We are proud to have Dr. Kirk Lawton, Jr. as our guest speaker for Homecoming 2015.  He is no stranger to us at Good Hope.  He has led us in revivals and many of us have been blessed through his ministry as Chaplain and Director of Pastoral Services at Conway Hospital.

Kirk is a native of South Carolina, married to the former Jane Saunders, and presently serving as Chaplain of Ocean Lakes Campground at Myrtle Beach. He has one son and three stepsons.

He received his education in South Carolina schools, graduating from Furman University. His seminary training sent him to Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and to Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina where he received his Bachelor of Divinity in 1960.  He was awarded Doctor of Divinity in 1986 by Charleston Southern University, formerly Baptist College at Charleston.

In June 2001 he retired as Chaplain of Conway Hospital. He served in that capacity for ten years.  He is well known in our area, having served as Pastor and interim Pastor in Myrtle Beach, Conway, Sumter and Timmonsville.

We welcome Dr. Lawton and his wife, Jane, to our fellowship today. We are blessed and privileged to have him as our speaker for Homecoming 2015.

WELCOME

Today is a very special day for Good Hope Baptist Church. It is Homecoming 2013, and we are so glad you are here to help us celebrate. We hope you will enjoy the singing, praying, the reading of God’s Word and especially Dr. Ron Farrar’s message. These things should be priority on this special day.

After the service, you are invited to stay for a great meal.  We would like to honor our seniors by letting them go first in line. If you have children under 10 years of age, please keep them with you and help them serve their plates  After you have eaten, we hope you will take time to reminisce with family and friends. Thank you for being with us on this special day.

GOOD HOPE COOKBOOKS
Take home some history with you today. Good Hope cookbooks are on sale for the reduced price of $10.00. Each cookbook includes hundreds of delicious recipes from the best cooks you can find. Many recipes come from our own mothers and grandmothers qualifying them to be “original Good Hope Recipes”.  A history of the church is also included. They make great gifts for family and friends. They will be on sale in the Christian Life Center after the service.

How to Find Happiness

Happiness is something you create in your mind,
Not something you search for but can’t seem to find,
Not something that’s purchased with silver or gold,
Not something that force can capture and hold.
It’s just waking up and beginning each day
By counting your blessings and kneeling to pray.
It’s giving up thoughts that breed discontent
And accepting what comes as a gift heaven-sent.
It’s giving up wishing for things you have not
And making the best of whatever you’ve got.
It’s  knowing that life is determined and planned
And God holds the world in the palm of His hand.
And it’s by completing what God gives you to do
That you find contentment and happiness, too.
