                                              Dr. Ronald E Farrar

We  welcome former pastor  Dr. Ronald E. Farrar and his wife Shirlee  as
our special guests today.  Dr. Farrar will bring today’s message.

Dr. Farrar was born in Keysville, Virginia.  He was licensed in 1970 and              ordained in 1971 at Ox Hill Baptist Church, Chantilly, Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, Master of Religious Education degree from Southeastern Baptist Seminary and the Doctor of Ministry degree from Luther Rice Seminary.

After pastoring churches in Virginia and North Carolina, he served Good  Hope Baptist Church from August 1997 until June 2001. Ron and Shirlee were a blessing to our church during their stay here. Their ministry was used by the Lord to touch lives in this community. God was glorified through worship and people were added to the church.

In July 2001, he began serving as an Intentional Interim Pastor. This ministry led him to serve churches in North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina. Ron continues to minister by speaking in churches and events in the area.

Ron and Shirlee reside in Myrtle Beach and have been married for         53 years. They are blessed with their daughter Helen, son-in-law Nathan, and, of course, two wonderful grandsons, Harrison and Sam.

WELCOME

Today is a very special day for Good Hope Baptist Church. It is Homecoming 2013, and we are so glad you are here to help us celebrate. We hope you will enjoy the singing, praying, the reading of God’s Word and especially Dr. Ron Farrar’s message. These things should be priority on this special day.

After the service, you are invited to stay for a great meal.  We would like to honor our seniors by letting them go first in line. If you have children under 10 years of age, please keep them with you and help them serve their plates  After you have eaten, we hope you will take time to reminisce with family and friends. Thank you for being with us on this special day.

GOOD HOPE COOKBOOKS
Take home some history with you today. Good Hope cookbooks are on sale for the reduced price of $10.00. Each cookbook includes hundreds of delicious recipes from the best cooks you can find. Many recipes come from our own mothers and grandmothers qualifying them to be “original Good Hope Recipes”.  A history of the church is also included. They make great gifts for family and friends. They will be on sale in the Christian Life Center after the service.

How to Find Happiness

Happiness is something you create in your mind,
Not something you search for but can’t seem to find,
Not something that’s purchased with silver or gold,
Not something that force can capture and hold.
It’s just waking up and beginning each day
By counting your blessings and kneeling to pray.
It’s giving up thoughts that breed discontent
And accepting what comes as a gift heaven-sent.
It’s giving up wishing for things you have not
And making the best of whatever you’ve got.
It’s  knowing that life is determined and planned
And God holds the world in the palm of His hand.
And it’s by completing what God gives you to do
That you find contentment and happiness, too.

Paul & “Jo” Stevens
Today we are honoring Paul and Jo Stevens simultaneously. We do so  perhaps because they were a team in everything they did relying on each other’s love and support.

Paul was born on May 3, 1927, the third son of Chestley H. and Marie Sarvis Stevens.

Jo was born on June 13, 1934, to Bath and Maye Chestnut Causey and was raised by her mother and Oliver Hardee, the only father she ever knew.

Both grew up in the Good Hope Community and attended Conway High School.  Paul later briefly attended Clemson College before returning home to help on the farm.  He served in the Navy Reserve from April 1945 until July 1946 and was stationed in California.

The two were married on January 20, 1951, and settled in the Good Hope Community.  They had three children-Lenair, Randy and Sandy-and were later blessed with 5 grandchildren-Jeff, Jeremy, Brandon, Gina, and Cassie- as well as two great-grands-Savannah and Faith. Both primarily worked on the family farm until 1969. Paul later retired with the Horry County School District and Jo retired with Belk’s Department Store.

Aside from each other, their greatest loves were God, their family, and their church.  Some of their happiest days were while they were members of the Alvin Singleton and Sarah Gem Sunday school classes at Good Hope. Both enjoyed their many years of serving on the Homecoming and Baptism committees.  Jo also served on the hostess committee.

Jo is probably known best in the community for her home cooking and Paul for his laughter, jokes and honesty.

Paul went to be with the Lord in September 2012 after 61 years of marriage and is truly missed.  Jo continues to be an active member in the church family.

To both of them we say “thank you” for having been a part of our lives.
